Will NBC have to face the wrath of new FCC Chair Kevin Martin? Via BoingBoing comes the revelation that for a recent Saturday Night Live broadcast, comedian David Spade — spoofing actor Owen Wilson — sported an artificial nose subtly shaped like the head of a penis. The Broadcasting and Cable website has posted an article about the sketch, and a picture. The most salient detail in the piece is that the FCC has so far received no complaints about the March 12 show (the Commission only acts when prodded by outraged viewers; it doesn't investigate of its own accord).
There are only two explanations for the complete lack of complaints. One: The James Dobsons and Brent Bozells of this world are working themselves into a righteous lather before pushing for a half-million-dollar fine. Or two (and arguably worse for Lorne Michaels and his three-decades-old corpse of a show): Even the self-appointed nannies are hip to SNL's long slide into irrelevance and, like the rest of us, have stopped caring.
