Kids Behaving Badly
Some school districts, mercifully, have a strict anti-waving policy, because, y'know, you let one kid wave and pretty soon it's a full-fledged teenage wavefest.
A Warren High School senior was not allowed to walk across the stage to receive her high school diploma recently because she violated Northside Independent School District policy when she waved and pumped her fists in the air at the crowd. ... According to Northside ISD policy, students must keep their hands by their side at all times and not bring them above waist level until they receive their diploma.

this sounds like seattle public schools on racism. that whole individualism thing again! evil!

This isn't even particularly new. When I graduated from high school in 1994, there was no such official policy, but the principal interrupted the graduation ceremony in the middle to complain about too much "hand gesturing" from the students who were graduating.
That guy was a COMPLETE nanny statist. He would have been better working at a prison...
BTW: this was in Jacksonville, FL.
