I'm going on an eight-day trip and won't have much time or opportunity to blog. But fret not — just keep showing up here and you'll be in good hands.
For over a decade, I've had a lot of memorable, sometimes fiery discussions with fellow journalist Anita Bartholomew, with whom I served on the First Amendment Committee of a large national writers group for a few years. We see eye to eye on ninety percent of all issues, and those other ten percent keep it interesting.
Though Anita is not nearly as curmudgeonly as I am, and a bit further to the left politically, she and I have a lot in common. We cherish our liberties. We have little regard for officialdom, and an overdeveloped gag reflex when it comes to lawmakers who treat grownups like little kids. We recklessly favor clarity over diplomacy.
Though I might have a chance to pop in once or twice, Anita will essentially be minding the store for a good week, starting today. Make her feel loved!
