Silence Equals Death

I've noted before that the second most populous country in the world has a peculiarly religious-fundamentalist mindset when it comes to romance and sex. There's no doubt that closed minds and unbending morals lead to a great big pile of dead bodies:

India's Maharashtra state has banned the introduction of sex education in schools after protests from legislators who say it will corrupt young minds. ... Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh states recently announced similar decisions. India has the highest number of Aids patients in the world.

Yes, better for young people to die drawn-out, miserable deaths than to explain to them what a condom is. Sound familiar ?

Maybe sex-ed-deprived young Indians will figure it all out from looking at dirty pictures — although they will, in that case, be subject to arrest and mandatory public sit-ups.

India sure has come a long way since it produced one of the world's most famous and enduring books.
