Must be an April Fools' joke (the reporter's byline, along with the appearance of a source named "Mr. Dowdy," gives the game away). Still, it's not so very far-fetched.
A style war has broken out in Brussels over plans to make European politicians more attractive with the help of image gurus. The European Commission wants to set up a special fund to get politicians to sharpen up their appearance ahead of next year's elections.
"We have an image problem," says Commission spokesman Jean-Pierre Delabarre. "We're all too grey and boring-looking. Europeans, especially younger voters, are being turned off by our appearance," adds Mr Delabarre, casting a look at his own grey suit and grey-striped tie. ...
A group of image consultants and designers will be on hand to help revamp EU officials' wardrobes and hairstyles.
