It's really not about getting drunk drivers off the road. It's a chance for cops and municipalities to show that they officially frown upon people who drink alcohol, even when these revelers pose zero risk to themselves or others.
What's next, cops going into bars and forcing the patrons to take sobriety tests?
Oh, right, that's actually been happening already.


Just look at the comments following the article. There are not only the usual idiots who think the cops are "protecting us" by citing "drunk" pedestrians, but who literally say a police state is a good thing.
It's hard to escape the notion that most of the people in this country deserve everything the government has in store for them.
