256 residents of a small town don't want to drink alcohol. Now, because prohibition has historically worked so well, they're forcing the other 237 townspeople to become teetotalers, too.
People living in the Tlicho aboriginal community of Behchoko,
N.W.T. [Canada], have voted by a narrow margin to ban alcohol from their
community. In a plebiscite held Wednesday, 256 voters supported the alcohol ban, while 237 voted against it. The plebiscite asked residents if "the consumption, possession,
purchase sale and transport of liquor be prohibited" in the community,
located about 95 kilometres north of Yellowknife.
Perhaps next time they can all vote on the permissibility of viewing naked pictures, or on whether rock music may be played anywhere within Behchoko's municipal boundaries, or on whether to bring back the pillory for adulterous neighbors. Hey, if it's democratically decided, how can it be bad, right?

They should take it to its logical conclusion and those 256 people should vote to turn the other 237 people into complete and total slaves. Democracy in action!
